Conditional Sentence (type zero, one and two)

We use zero conditional to describe real event or situation.

Only present simple (without future form/will)

if usually has the same meaning with when

example :

if you eat healthy food, your body gets healthy too.

your body gets healthy when you eat healthy food.

we use 1st conditional to talk about possible future events and their possible results.

You can use the the first conditional to talk about predictions, superstitions, future plans, warnings & threats, and offers & suggestions. These are things that are real, so this conditional is also called the future real conditional.

There are two parts to a conditional sentence.

There is an if-clause (also called the conditional-clause) and a main-clause or result-clause.

The if-clause contains the condition (the event or situation that must happen first), and the main-clause, which is the result.

The two events are connected. One event or situation is a condition for another event or situation

Yes, you use the present simple tense even though you are talking about a future event.

examples :

If you don’t hurry, you’ll be late for work. (prediction) If you go shopping tomorrow, I’ll go with you. (future plan) If you say that again, I will hurt you! (warning)

we use 2nd conditional when we want to imagine that the present or future is different from the reality.

These are things that are not real, so this conditional is also called the present unreal conditional.

Yes, use the simple past in this sentence even though you are talking about a present situation.

examples:

If I were* her, I’d apologize for being late. (advice) *in conditional we use were instead of was for I

If I had more money, I would buy a new car. (imaginary)

If you had only one day to live, what would you do? (hypothetical question)

we can use unless instead of if .... not in a conditional sentence.

example:

You won’t get into a good university unless you study.

I can’t drive unless I have my glasses.

Unless he was very ill, he would be at work.
