Basic negation and question formation French

How do you make a French sentence negative?

You need to place two words around the conjugated verb. (the verb that agrees with the subject)
the two words are ne...pas
Example: Je ne regarde pas la télé.

Take the positive sentence and make it negative

Rita voyage souvent. First you have to locate the verb. Second you have to place ne...pas around the verb. So your negative sentence will look like this: Rita ne voyage pas souvent.

Other negative expressions are:

ne... jamais = never
ne... rien = nothing
ne... personne = no one

A verb is made negative by placing ne before it and pas after it: ne (verb) pas
In the inverted questions form, ne is placed before the verb while pas is placed after the subject pronoun : ne (verb + pronoun) pas
Example: Ne travailles-tu pas après les cours?
The e of the ne is dropped before a vowel or silent h: Je n'arrive pas à l'heure.
The word si is used to contradict a negative statement. Example:
Ne parlez-vous pas français?
Si, je parle français.
