Passive reporting verbs

The police believe that the murderer is no longer in the country.

-> It is believed that the murderer is no longer in the country.

People thought that the building could collapse.

-> It was thought that the building could collapse.

-> It has been announced that they are going to cancel the tour.

He is said to be an art collector. -> present (simple infinitive)

They were believed to be secretly in love. -> present (simple infinitive)

They are thought to be living under strict protection. -> pr. continuous (continuous infinitive)

She is expected to become a superstar. -> future (simple infinitive)

She was thought to have left the previous week. -> past - the action happened in the past, before the reporting (perfect infinitive)

He is known to have been hiding somewhere in Panama since he escaped. -> past (perfect continuous infinitive)
