There are various ways to make sentences negative...
The most basic is ne...pas
Negative expressions get placed around the conjugated verb
Ne becomes n' in front of a vowel sound

Personne and rien can stand alone.
Ex: -Qui est absent?
-Personne.
Ex: Qu'est-ce que tu as mangé?
-Rien

Personne ne... and Rien ne.... can start sentences.
Ex: Personne n'aime se lever tôt le dimanche.
Ex: Rien n'est pire!
Also- use Si to respond affirmatively to a negative question.
Ex: -Tu n'as pas fini les devoirs? - Si!
