The RACE Strategy

Analyze the interactions between individuals, events, and ideas in a text (e.g., how ideas influence individuals or events, or how individuals influence ideas or events).

Use the question to help you restate. Do not start with a ‘Question word” (Who, What, Where, When, Why or Because,..)

Q: Why is education important?

Restate: Education is important because…

Answer the question.

• Your answer should be 1-2 sentences long and should fully answer the question.

• Can be combined with your restatement.

Example: Education is important because it allows us to learn a wealth of knowledge. As global citizens, it is important that we never stop learning.

• Make sure you include the BEST piece of text

evidence that supports your answer.

Example:

In the text it mentions, “Education not only teaches our children facts but also teaches them how to think and learn on their own” (p.22).

• Include 1-2 sentences that makes it clear how the text evidence supports your answer.

This proves that knowledge is a powerful tool that everyone should possess. The more that you know, the better off you will be in your future endeavors.
