Mesopotamia is now called, "Iraq". It is a country in Asia.

The rivers provided water and a means of travel. In ancient times, it was easier to travel by boat than over land.

Where does the water come from? Where does it go?
Snow melts high in the mountains, causing the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers to flood the land of Mesopotamia.
The rivers continue to the Persian Gulf and out to sea.

Flooding Left Fertile Soil
After the flood waters were gone, the flood plains were left with SILT, fertile soil perfect for growing crops.
