Types of Slope

A positive slope means that as you move from left to right on a graph, the line rises. It indicates a direct relationship between the two variables.

A negative slope means that as you move from left to right on a graph, the line falls. It indicates an inverse relationship between the two variables.

A zero slope means that the line is horizontal. There is no change in the y-value as the x-value changes, indicating a constant value.

An undefined slope occurs when the line is vertical. The x-value does not change, leading to a division by zero in the slope formula.

The slope (m) is calculated using the formula m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1), where (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) are two points on the line.

A slope of 1 indicates that for every unit increase in x, there is a corresponding unit increase in y, resulting in a 45-degree angle line.

A slope of -1 indicates that for every unit increase in x, there is a corresponding unit decrease in y, resulting in a line that falls at a 45-degree angle.

The slope of a horizontal line is 0, meaning there is no vertical change as you move along the line.

The slope of a vertical line is undefined because the x-value does not change, leading to division by zero.

A slope of 2 means that for every 1 unit increase in x, the y-value increases by 2 units.
