Informal Geometry Transformations Test

A transformation in geometry is an operation that moves or changes a shape in some way, including translations, rotations, reflections, and dilations.

Translation is a transformation that moves every point of a shape the same distance in the same direction.

A rotation is a transformation that turns a shape around a fixed point, known as the center of rotation, by a certain angle.

Reflection is a transformation that flips a shape over a line, creating a mirror image of the original shape.

A line of reflection is the line over which a shape is reflected to create a mirror image.

A dilation is a transformation that changes the size of a shape but not its shape, using a scale factor.

Enlargement increases the size of a shape (scale factor > 1), while reduction decreases the size of a shape (scale factor < 1).

To determine if a line is a line of reflection, check if each point on the shape is equidistant from the line and that the corresponding points are perpendicular to the line.

The x-axis is the horizontal line in a coordinate plane where the y-coordinate is zero.

The y-axis is the vertical line in a coordinate plane where the x-coordinate is zero.
