Coordinate Plane

A coordinate plane is a two-dimensional surface formed by the intersection of a horizontal line (x-axis) and a vertical line (y-axis). It is used to locate points using ordered pairs.

Ordered pairs are pairs of numbers used to locate points on a coordinate plane, written in the form (x, y), where x is the horizontal position and y is the vertical position.

The origin is the point where the x-axis and y-axis intersect, represented by the coordinates (0, 0).

Quadrants are the four sections of the coordinate plane created by the x-axis and y-axis. They are labeled as Quadrant I, II, III, and IV.

To identify the coordinates of a point, look at its position relative to the x-axis (horizontal) and y-axis (vertical) and express it as an ordered pair (x, y).

The coordinates of point A are (3, 4), where 3 is the x-coordinate and 4 is the y-coordinate.

The x-axis is the horizontal line on a coordinate plane where the y-coordinate is zero.

The y-axis is the vertical line on a coordinate plane where the x-coordinate is zero.

Negative coordinates are values that are less than zero, indicating a position to the left of the origin on the x-axis or below the origin on the y-axis.

To plot a point, start at the origin (0, 0), move along the x-axis to the x-coordinate, and then move vertically to the y-coordinate.
