Scientific Method Vocabulary

This is the first step of the scientific process. It has to do with using your senses to gather information.

The process of making an inference. An interpretation based on observations and prior knowledge.

The process of grouping things based on their similarities

Creating representations of complex objects or processes.

An observation that deals with a number or amount (mass, height, length, temperature, etc.)

An observation that describes using your five senses (sight, smell, touch, taste, hearing). It also uses NO numbers.

A testable prediction that has been made based on an observation or question (or both).

The variable that changes as a result of the experiment; the outcome.

The variable in an experiment that a scientist purposely changes; the cause

A variable that is kept constant during a controlled experiment.
