Desert Animal Adaptations

I have a specially adapted tail that stores water in fatty tissues.

I have toxic venom that I use to protect myself from desert predators.

I go into hibernation when the weather becomes too cold.

I avoid dehydration by spending most of my life in moist and humid shelters underground.

To avoid the extreme heat of the desert, most of my activity occurs in the morning and the late afternoon.

The side-to-side way I move allows me to move rapidly over the loose shifting sand.

I have upturned, horn-like scales over my eyes. This horn is capable of folding down over my eyes for protection as I move through my habitat.

I am mostly nocturnal which helps me avoid the heat during the day.

I move in a side-to-side motion that allows me to keep most of my body off the ground. This reduces my body's contact with the hot desert sand.

My sandy color protects me from predators and allows me to find or trap prey easier in the desert.
