P. E. Sayaw sa Bangko

Sayaw sa Bangko (“dance on a bench”) is a folk dance from the Pangasinan province of the Philippines.

Performers dance on top of a bench that is normally six inches wide.

Sayaw sa Bangko is performed by a couple on a narrow bench, inching and hopping from one end to another.

This dance dates back to before the Spanish colonization of the Philippines, which means it is a purely Pilipino Ancestral dance.

Dancers need good balance as they go through a series of movements that include some impressive acrobatics.

It is usually performed during town fiestas.

Women wear Patadyong while men wear a Camisa de chino with handkerchief tied around their neck and rolled up trousers.

The purpose of this dance is to bring rural and barrio communities together during celebrations. They do not compete but rather complement each other so that no one falls.
