• Democratic-Republicans A political party led by Thomas Jefferson that supported
  limited government, states’ rights, and a

• Jeffersonian Republicanism A belief that government should be small, power should stay close to the people, and citizens should actively participate in self-government.

• Marbury v. Madison (1803) A Supreme Court case that established judicial review, giving courts the power to review laws.
