Types of Body Symmetry in Animals
Asymmetrical
These animals have no defined body shape or symmetry.
They cannot be divided into equal halves along any plane.
A common example of an asymmetrical animal is a sponge.
Radial Symmetry
The body parts are arranged around a single central point.
Drawing lines through the center creates multiple equal parts.
This body plan is common in animals like jellyfish.
Bilateral Symmetry
An animal can be divided into two equal mirror-image halves.
This creates a distinct left side and a right side.
This leads to the development of a head, called cephalization.
