What are Prepositions?

• Words like around, past, and into are all common prepositions.

Let's Learn with an Example

Here is our example sentence: The cat jumped over the fence and ran toward the tall tree.

The word over connects the jump to the fence, telling us where the cat jumped.

The word toward connects the run to the tree, showing the direction the cat ran.

Both words help answer the question "where?", so we know they are prepositions.
