Battle of Yorktown & Yorktown Victory Day

The Battle of Yorktown, sometimes known as the Siege of Yorktown, was the final major battle of the Revolutionary War. This battle, led by Alexander Hamilton and George Washington, ended the fighting for American Independence on Oct. 19, 1781.

The Battle of Yorktown took place in Virginia, and is often considered the most important battle of the Revolutionary War.
This massive win by the Americans "turned the world upside down" because it was an unbelievable win.

Celebrating Yorktown is important, especially in Virginia!

Here in Virginia, we celebrate Yorktown Victory Day by:

• Reenactments

• Parades

• Laying wreathes at memorials

• Ceremonial firings of weapons

• Historical tours of Yorktown

• Local historical programs

Here we can see a community reenactment in 2016, where people come together and watch how the Americans won the war at Yorktown.
