Dialogue 1 – Looking for Maple Street

Jhon: Excuse me… is this Maple Street?

Woman: No, Maple is across from the coffee shop, just a block down.

Jhon: Got it, thanks.

Woman: Be careful, this street is pretty busy.

Jhon: Yeah, lots of cars, better watch my step.

Woman: Where are you heading?

Jhon: I gotta deliver a package at number 20.

Woman: That’s near the water fountain in the little park.

Jhon: Oh, perfect. How far is it?

Woman: Two-minute walk, straight ahead.

Jhon: Thanks, have a good one.

Woman: You too, take care.

17

Dialogue 2 – Wrong entrance

Jhon: Main entrance?

Guard: Not here, use the lobby entrance across the street.

Jhon: Better if I go through the side door?

Guard: No, that’s for staff only.

Jhon: Got it. This building is pretty big.

Guard: Yeah, easy to get lost.

Jhon: I was waiting at the corner, nobody told me.

Guard: Happens all the time.

Jhon: Next time I’ll meet them at the lobby entrance.

Guard: Good idea, safer and faster.

Jhon: Thanks for your help.

Guard: Anytime.

18

Dialogue 3 – Asking for the park

Jhon: Excuse me, how do I get to Central Park?

Teen: Straight ahead, then turn left at the traffic light.

Jhon: Better if I take this little street?

Teen: No, that one’s closed today.

Jhon: Got it. Is it far?

Teen: Not really, it’s a two-minute walk.

Jhon: Great, thanks.

Teen: No worries.

Jhon: This city is pretty confusing.

Teen: Tell me about it, I’m still waiting to learn all the shortcuts.

Jhon: Ha! Guess I’ll face the music if I get lost again.

Teen: Happens to everyone.

19

Dialogue 4 – The dog in the yard

Jhon: Hello? Delivery for apartment 2B.

Voice: Gate code is 3-4-2.

Jhon: Thanks. (enters, hears barking) Whoa, careful with the dog!

Neighbor: Yeah, he’s always in the yard.

Jhon: Better if I wait outside.

Neighbor: Good call. I’ll tell them to bring it down.

Jhon: Thanks, I was about to face the music with that dog.

Neighbor: Ha, don’t worry, he just makes a lot of noise.

Jhon: Still, I don’t wanna get bitten.

Neighbor: Fair enough. Stay outside, they’ll come.

Jhon: Got it, appreciate it.

Resident: Here’s the package, thanks.

20

Dialogue 5 – Gas station confusion

Jhon: Looking for the gas station.

Man: Around the corner, by the red store.

Jhon: The little store with water bottles outside?

Man: Yeah, that one.

Jhon: Got it. Better if I cross here or wait for the light?

Man: Wait for the light, too much traffic.

Jhon: Okay. How long will it take?

Man: Two, maybe three minutes.

Jhon: Perfect, thanks.

Man: No problem. Stay safe, streets are busy today.

Jhon: Appreciate it, have a good one.

Man: You too.

21

Dialogue 6 – Wrong delivery spot

Jhon: Excuse me, is this building number 40?

Woman: No, this is 42. Number 40 is behind the supermarket.

Jhon: Oh, I was waiting at the wrong place.

Woman: Happens a lot, better check the numbers carefully.

Jhon: Got it. Is it far?

Woman: Not really, just across the street, next to the little bakery.

Jhon: Ah, the bakery with the pretty red sign?

Woman: Exactly, you’ll see it.

Jhon: Great, thanks a lot.

Woman: Anytime. Don’t block the driveway when you park there.

Jhon: Thanks for the tip. See you around.

Woman: Take care.

22

Dialogue 7 – Meeting a friend

Friend: Where are you?

Jhon: Waiting near the fountain, across from the station.

Friend: Better if we meet at the lobby entrance, less noise.

Jhon: True, this place is pretty loud.

Friend: You gotta cross the street anyway.

Jhon: Okay, how far is it from the little café?

Friend: Just one block, two minutes.
