I Can identify the purpose for an author's writing AND the parts of the writing that author uses to establish their purpose.

This is WHY the author is writing.

• Are we trying to be convinced to buy something/think a certain way?

  • AND do we want to be convinced to buy/think something?

What is the Author's Purpose for Writing This?

Place four eggs in a large saucepan. Add enough cold water to cover the eggs by one inch. Slowly bring the water to a boil over medium heat. As soon as the water begins to boil, remove the pan from the burner. Cover it and let the eggs sit for about ten minutes. Then, drain the water from the pan. You will notice, though, that a hot hard-boiled egg is not easy to peel. To cool the eggs, rinse them with cold water. Then, when you're ready to peel an egg, gently tap it on the counter until the shell cracks.

Now you're the authors! As a group you are going to write a paragraph (3-4 sentences) about the topic below. Mr. G will tell your group what your purpose is! Check your chats!

The Topic: Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches

You will do one of the following:

-Persuade your readers to try a delicious PB & J sandwich

-Teach your readers about a PB & J sandwich.

-Or write an entertaining paragraph about a PB and J!

Only ONE person needs to submit your paragraph!


Let's Brainstorm: How can we accomplish this task?

Want to inform your readers about your favorite video game? Go for it! Want to persuade the readers to watch your favorite anime! Do it! Want to write a silly paragraph about Mr. G slowly losing his mind every time someone mentions 6 7? I can't wait to read it!
