One sunny afternoon, Hazel was walking home from school when she heard a soft whimper. She peeked behind a bush and found a small brown puppy with a red collar. The puppy looked scared and alone.
Hazel knelt down and whispered, “It’s okay, little one.” The puppy wagged its tail but didn’t move. Hazel noticed a tag on the collar that said Buddy and had a phone number.
She wanted to help, but she wasn’t sure what to do. First, she gave the puppy some of her water. Then, she used her phone to call the number. A worried voice answered—it was Buddy’s owner! They had been searching all day.
Just a few minutes later, a woman came running down the street. “Buddy!” she cried. The puppy leapt into her arms, wagging so hard his tail was a blur.
The woman thanked Hazel again and again. As she hugged Buddy tight, Hazel felt proud. She had helped a lost puppy find his way home.
