DEFINITION

• Recount Text is a text that retells past experiences or events.

• Purpose: To inform or to entertain the reader by telling what happened.

• Example topics: holiday, school event, memorable experience.

GENERIC STRUCTURES

• Orientation → introduces the participants, place, and time.

• Events → tell the events in chronological order.

• Re-orientation → closing statement (optional).

​LANGUAGE FEATURES

• Using past tense (went, saw, visited, etc.)

• Using action verbs (played, traveled, enjoyed, etc.)

• Using time connectors (first, then, after that, finally)

• Specific participants (I, my family, my friends)

EXAMPLE TEXT

Title: My Holiday in Bali

• Orientation: Last year, my family and I went to Bali.

• Events: First, we visited Tanah Lot. Then, we went to Kuta Beach and enjoyed the sunset. We also tried traditional food.

• Re-orientation: It was a wonderful holiday, and I will never forget it.
