Living Things

All living things are made up of cells. Cells are the basic building block of life.

Some are composed of a single cell, while some have millions. If there are cells, it is a living thing.

Domains of living things: Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya

Bacteria and Archaea are single celled

Eukarya have multiple cells.

All living things do 7 things that determine whether something is living or non living.

7 Characteristics

All living things are made of cells. Allows us to breathe, move, and digest food.

​Having a steady state. Humans have a steady state in the form of body temperature.

​​Homeostasis

​Energy allows living things to perform actions such as moving and growing.

Living things must grow. New features or grow in size.

​​Growth

All living things can reproduce, creating offspring.

​Respond to a change in the environment. Trees changing their leaves with the seasons.

​Large-scale changes within the population of organisms. These changes occur over a long period of time.
