• Personal attacks

• Just “I like it” or “It’s bad”

• Only pointing out flaws

Critique IS NOT:

• Honest, thoughtful feedback

• About the work, not the person

• A tool for improvement

Critique IS:

Two Sides of Critique

1. Giving Feedback – learning to analyze and express ideas clearly

2. Receiving Feedback – learning to listen, reflect, and improve

• Be specific: Point out exact moments or choices

• Be objective: Focus on techniques, not personal taste

• Be respectful: Assume the creator worked hard

How to Give Helpful Feedback

How to Receive Critique

• Listen without interrupting

• Take notes

• Don’t get defensive — feedback = growth

• Ask clarifying questions

• “One thing I noticed is…”

• “This choice helps because…”

• “You might make this stronger by…”

• “Have you thought about…?”
