​Activities ending in -ing:

The verb "go" is used for sports or activities that have "ing" at the end of their name. 

• Examples: go running, go swimming, go cycling, go fishing. 

​Individual activities:

"Do" is used for activities that are more individual in nature. 

• Examples: do yoga, do gymnastics, do karate.

​Play. Team sports and ball games: You use "play" for sports where people compete in teams, especially if a ball is involved. Examples: play football, play tennis, play basketball.
