​Technique: Where to line up

​Defensive calls consist of 3 parts.

• Fronts (how the down linemen are aligned)

  • 31, 22, 13

• Stunts/Blitz (changes to base responsibilities)

• Coverage (how we cover the recivers

Example: 31 Salute Red

• 31 tells the two tackles how to alingment

• Salute tells the D-Line and LB what gap to take

• Red tells the DB man coverage

​Strength call:

• Done by the LB but everyone should be able to call

• Based on the Tight end (TE, Y) or the alingment of the running back.

• RIP- strong right

• LIZ- stron left

​Fronts: 31

​31 with a RIP call

• DE- outside shade of OT, resonbible for C gap

• ST- T to the strength call, outside shade of the guard. Responsible for B gap

• BT- the tackle away from the strength call, outside shade of the C. Responsible for weak A gap

​Front 4 alignments

​Front: 31

​Linebacker Alignment

​Y is on the right so the strength call is RIP

• Mike- 4 yards over strong side A gap. A gap player

• Will- 3 yards over weak side B gap. B gap player

​Front: 22

• ​Both DT are head up on the Guard. Are responsible for the gap to the strength call

• Both DE are outside of the Tackles and are resposible for C gap

• Both Will and MNike are 4 yards back stack behind the DT

​Front: 13

​13 with a RIP call

• Tackle to the call, outside shade of the C (1 tech) A gap player

• Tackle away from the call, outside shade of the G (3 tech) B gap player

• Both DE are outside shade of the T (5 tech)

• Will - 3 yards over A gap

• Mike- 4 yards over B gap

• Wave (Army)

  • D-line slants one gap away from the call

• Salute (Terry)

  • D-line slants one gap to the call

​Interior Tackle Stunts

• Indy (Tim)

  • both DT slant in to A gap, does not matter what the strength call is

• Outlaw (Tom)

  • both DT slant out to B gap, does not matter what the strength call is

​Outside Blitz: LB Going

• Missile- (pirate)

  • Strong Side DE slants to B gap and Mike loops to C gap

• Warhead (Jet)

  • DT slants into B gap and Will loops to C gap
