Literary Analysis

What is Literary Analysis?

• Literary analysis (simplified) is...

  • Looking closely at what the author is trying to express

  • Considering how the author accomplishes that

  • your take on what happens in the story (based on evidence)
    

Class Structure

Our class runs Monday-Thursday from 9:15-10:45

• Our class will consist of full-class instruction, groupwork, partnerwork, and individual work

• My goal is to complete everything IN CLASS!

What will we be doing?

• Our course is going to be focused on SHORT STORIES

• We will be reading short stories, watching some short videos, answering questions, writing paragraphs, and writing our own short story

• This is your class. We will adjust to make sure we are all engaged.

Makes an argument based on the text (an assertion!), and uses elements from the text to support.

Analysis

What literally happens (main events, details about a character, etc.) in a story. This is an overview of the story.

Summary

Summary Vs. Analysis
