​Identifying Coefficients and Factors

​Remember: When two or more quantities are multiplied, each is called a factor!
2 x 2 = 4
factor x factor = product

​Factors can also be variables! Let's look at the example:

factors: 4, x, and y.
coefficient(s): 4

​The numeric factor is the coefficient.

​Identifying Terms

​Parts of an expression separated by + or - signs are called terms of an expression. A term that is in parentheses such as (y + 2) can include a plus or minus.
