Wind Lesson

Land heats up faster and cools down faster than water.

Sea Breezes and Land Breezes are two types of local winds caused by the unequal heating and cooling of land and water.

Occur when the land is heated up during the day. Warm air rises and cool air blows in from the cooler ocean to fill the space.

At night, the water cools down more slowly than the land. The warm air rises over the water and the cooler air from the land blows out to the ocean to fill in the space.

Global winds are winds that are flow great distances.

Global winds form because the Sun rays have to bend around the sphere shape at different angles. At the equator, the sun is almost directly overhead for most of the year. Warm air rises at the equator and moves toward the poles. At the poles, the cooler air sinks and moves back toward the equator.

They occur at different latitudes and curve because Earth is spinning.
