The Rise of the Roman Empire

From 753 BC to 509 BC, the area of Rome was ruled by kings. In 509, the Romas overthrew the Etruscan kings and vowed, or promised to never be ruled by kings again. That began a republic, where Senators were a group of leaders who made decisions for the people.

Using elements of the Greek democracy, the Romans used Senators to make decisions for the people. If you wanted different decisions made, you could choose a different Senator, or talk to them about making better decisions for the people.
