Solve the quadratic function by factoring.
y = x2 - 9x + 20
make y = 0 and factor x2 - 9x + 20
When you factor x2 - 9x + 20 you get
(x - 4)(x - 5)
Now set both sets of parenthesis = to 0 and solve for the variable.
x - 4 = 0 and x - 5 = 0
9
Solve a quadratic by factoring
x - 4 = 0 x - 5 = 0
x = 4 or x = 5
These answers are the solutions, roots or zeros of the quadratic. That means that this is where the graph crosses the x-axis.
The points will be (4,0) and (5, 0)
