An opinion is a belief or judgment, so two people may read the same text and form a different opinion about it.

As long as writers draw evidence from the text to support their opinions, different opinions can be valid or reasonable.

Clearly states the writer’s opinion, or what he or she thinks.

Gives a reason why the writer thinks that way.

Includes a specific detail, fact, piece of dialogue or other quote from the

text to show what made the writer think that way.

Includes one or more pieces of supporting evidence from the text.

Tells howthe given evidence supports the reason and/or opinion.
