Dividing by Fractions and Mixed Numbers

Multiplying fractions is no problem. Top times top and bottom times bottom. Before you say goodbye, don't forget to simplify!

 $\frac{3}{4}\ \times\ \frac{2}{5}\ =\ \frac{6}{20}\ \div\ 2\ =\ \frac{3}{10}$  

First, change any whole numbers to fractions and any mixed numbers to improper fractions.

KEEP the first fraction

CHANGE to multiplication

FLIP the second fraction (reciprocal)

SOLVE the multiplication problem

 $4\ \div\ \frac{2}{3}\ ->\ \frac{4}{1}\ \times\frac{3}{2}\ =\ \frac{12}{2}\ =\ 6$
