characters are imaginary people living in a period in history.  Sometimes real people from history may be included.

story events are fictional, but they take place within the context of real historical events

Time-order words and phrases, such as before, all at once, a moment later, and suddenly, are words used to signal sequence.

Determining the sequence of plot events in a story helps readers understand and remember what characters do to solve the problem they face

words or phrases in a sentence or paragraph that a reader can use to help figure out an unfamiliar word

sometimes you have to read the entire sentence or paragraph to figure out what the author is trying to say
