​Slope from Graphs

• Decide if the slope is positive or negative.

  Positive: Increasing from left to right

  Negative: Decreasing from left to right

• Find two perfect points. Start at the lowest point & then form a right triangle by doing rise over run.

• If it is a word problem, read the labels on the graph & make sure there is a perfect point at those specific numbers. If the numbers are not on the graph, find the unit rate (y value when x=1)

• Remember to simplify fractions in the calculator.

• y=mx+b is the equation of a line

• "m" represents the slope and "b" represents the y-intercept

• Word problems: the slope or "m" will be a variable term (per, each, every) or unknown value. The y-intercept or "b" will be your constant (one-time values, beginning or starting point, fees)

• Graphs: When writing an equation of the graph, find the slope and then locate the y-intercept. On a graph, the y-intercept is the point where a line crosses or touches the y-axis. Its the value of y when x=0
