The mountains make it difficult to trade over land so the people are forced to go to the coast

Like Athens, Rome will be forced to trade and colonize the Mediterranean Sea so they can have food and resources

In the early days of Rome, the Roman military was focused on its Navy due to the number of Colonies

Rome needed to protect trading ships so the city-state wouldn't starve

Soon, other Empires would become jealous of Rome and attack its colonies which meant that Rome then had to build an army
