What is the "supreme power" in our government?

“The United States shall guarantee to

every State in this Union a Republican

Form of Government, and shall protect

each of them against Invasion”

Each state government is

made up of

representatives who are

elected by the people.

“The judicial Power of the United States

shall be vested in one supreme Court,

and in such inferior Courts as the

Congress may from time to time ordain

and establish.”

The judicial branch is

made up of at least one

Supreme Court and other

lower courts that will be

created by Congress.

“We the people of the United States [...]

do ordain and establish this Constitution

for the United States of America.”

The citizens are the ones

who have created and

given authority to the

government of the United

States.

“The President, Vice President and all civil

Officers of the United States, shall be

removed from Office on Impeachment

for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or

other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

Those elected and

appointed to government

positions may be removed

from office for different

offenses against the

government.

“The powers not delegated to the United

States by the Constitution, nor

prohibited by it to the States, are

reserved to the States respectively, or to

the people.”

If the Constitution does

not give a specific power

to the national or state

governments, it belongs

to the people.

Article 1 “All legislative powers herein

granted shall be vested in a Congress”

Article 2 “The executive power shall be

vested in a President”

Article 3 “The judicial power of the United

States shall be vested in one Supreme

Court”

National power is divided

between Congress, the

Supreme Court, and

Congress.

“Congress shall make no law respecting

an establishment of religion, or

prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or

abridging the freedom of speech, or of

the press; or the right of the people

peaceably to assemble, and to petition

the Government for a redress of

grievances.”

Citizens have the freedom

of speech, press, religion,

assembly, and petition.
