Experiment with Gummies

Steps

Put one of your gummies
in the cup of water.

-This is your
dependent variable.

Leave the other gummy
untouched.

-This is your control
variable.

Osmosis

The transfer of water.

A special type of facilitated diffusion.

Uses aquaporin for transportation.

Water moves until it reaches a
balanced point in both solutions.

-Water moves toward the solution
with more solute.

3 Situations

Hypertonic

-More solute on
outside.

-Causes cell to
shrivel.

Isotonic

-Equal amount of
solute and solvent
on both sides.

-Everything stays the
same.

Hypotonic

-More solute on
inside.

-Causes cell to burst.
