Guiding Question: Is love a choice?

In "A Midsummer Night's Dream", there are many different types of love at play. Each of them is caused by something different, and each of them is viewed differently by the characters in the play and those of us in the audience.

Learning Intention: We will analyze the types of love and how they contribute to characterization in the play.

Types of Love

• True Love - A deep, mutual, and sincere connection between two people.

• Unrequited Love - Love that is one-sided and not returned.

• Forced Love - A relationship where one person

  is pressured or required to love another.

• False Love - Love that is created or altered by supernatural forces.

• Friendship Love - A strong bond and loyalty

  between friends (not romantic).\

• Earned Love - One fights for and wins the love of another.
