This type of democracy is where the will of the people is translated into public policy directly through mass meetings where citizens gather and make decisions regarding policy.

This type of democracy has representatives chosen through elections, and results in a small group representing the overall will of the people.

This type of democracy has sovereign power held by those who are eligible to vote, while political power is exercised by the representatives chosen by the citizens.

This document established that the power of the monarchy was not absolute (limited) and that NO ONE was above the law- not even the king. 

This document was an act signed into law in 1689 by William III and Mary II, who became co-rulers in England after the overthrow of King James II. 

Known as the Great Charter, this document was signed by King John in 1215.

This document listed rather important provisions such as: Roman Catholics couldn’t be king or queen, Parliament should be summoned frequently and the succession of the throne would be passed to Mary’s sister, Princess Anne of Denmark, and her heirs (than to any heirs of William by a later marriage).

This document was signed by King Charles I of England in 1628.

The rights established by this document included: no cruel punishment, no excessive bail or fines, the right to bear arms, and the right to petition. The King could no longer declare martial law in times of peace or require homeowners to share their home with the King’s troops without permission from the owner, and the document required the punishment of any person to be determined by a judgment of his peers.

This document outlined specific constitutional and civil rights and ultimately gave Parliament power over the monarchy. Many experts regard this document as the primary law that set the stage for a constitutional monarchy in England. It’s also credited as being an inspiration for the U.S. Bill of Rights.

The signing of this document took place at the culmination of the Glorious Revolution.  Formally known as “An Act Declaring the Rights and Liberties of the Subject and Settling the Succession of the Crown," some of its many provisions included condemning King James II for abusing his power and declared that the monarchy could not rule without consent of the Parliament.

This document challenged the divine right theory; even monarchs were expected to obey the law of the land. This act again limited the power of the monarch, and granted all the rights of the nobility from the Magna Carta to all free citizens. 

This document introduced the ideas of limited government, due process of law, trial by jury, and the protection of private property and civil liberties.

This document was signed by the Pilgrims in 1620. This is the first colonial plan for self-rule. It said that the Pilgrims would choose their own leaders and they would make their own laws that all were to follow. These laws would be designed to benefit all of society.

This document, written by Thomas Jefferson, stated that "all men are created equal" and that the colonies should be given their independence and should be allowed to rule themselves.

Puritans who left Plymouth drew up the first formal constitution in the colonies. It laid out a plan for government that gave the people the right to elect the governor, judges and representatives to make laws.
