Learning Goal:
I can convert fraction to percents.

Vocabulary and Information to know:
To convert a fraction to a percent- Two Ways

Option 1:
Divide the numerator by the denominator AND then multiply by 100.
When multiplying by 100, move the decimal point two places to the right!

Option 2:
Multiply both numerator and denominator by a number that will make the denominator equal to 100.

​Let's test multiply by 100 on the next slides.

For example:

1.7 x 100 = 1.70 21.3 x 100 = 2130 0.09 x 100 = 9

​OK, now we will try dividing the numerator by the denominator.

You will do this with long division:
Put the numerator in the house and the denominator outside.

2. Ask- How many times does ____ go in ___ (factor on top)

3. Then multiply (factor on top by factor on side) (product on bottom)

4. Then Subtract (difference on bottom)

5. Then bring down

6. Then start over at 1
   

OK, now let's put the step together.

First you will divide
Second you will multiply by 100

​If the numerator is twice as big as the denominator it will be 200%
For example: 6/3 = 2 or 200% 10/5 = 2 or 200%

​If the numerator is three times as big as the denominator it will be 300%
For example: 36/12 = 3 or 300% 9/3 = 3 or 300%

We will test this out on the next slides.

1 whole = 100%
2 whole = 200%
3 whole = 300%
4 whole = 400%

and on and on and on

If a fraction is improper,
the numerator is larger than the denominator,
break it into a mixed number
and only divide the fraction part.
