Overall, the income distribution in both cities and regional centres shows notable similarities, with the majority of people belonging to the lower middle and middle-income groups. However, there are some key differences, particularly in the proportions of low and high-income groups between the two areas.

In cities, over one-third of the population earns a middle income ($70,000–$120,000), making it the largest group. Similarly, 30% of city dwellers belong to the lower middle-income category ($40,000–$70,000). High-income earners ($120,000 or more) account for 20% of the urban population, while the low-income group (earning $40,000 or less) constitutes the smallest share at 13%.

In contrast, regional centres exhibit some differences in their income distribution. The proportion of people in the middle-income group is slightly smaller than in cities, at 27%, whereas the lower middle-income group dominates at 34%. Additionally, the low-income population is significantly larger in regional centres, representing over 20% of residents. High-income earners are less common, accounting for only 15% of the population in these areas.
