Read the scenarios below. Identify if the descriptions are about weathering, erosion, or deposition.
Rain, wind, and temperature
changes have slowly broken down the surface of a statue over time
Waves dropping sand and
sediments on the beach
Sediments are being carried away by a fast-moving stream

What are natural resources?
Natural resources are materials found in the natural world that are useful in
some way. Air, water, plants and animals are all examples of natural
resources.
People need or use natural resources. They are made by nature.

What are Renewable Resources?
A renewable resource is a natural resource that cannot be used up.
Natural resources that take a short time to be replaced such as animals or
plants are called renewable resources.
Air & Wind
Soil
Trees/Plants
Water
Animals

What are Nonrenewable Resources?
A nonrenewable resource is a natural resource that can be used up or that
cannot be replaced in a short time. They take millions of years to make.

Oil
(Petroleum)
Natural Gas
Gasoline
Rocks

Let’s revisit the phenomenon
What are examples of
renewable and
nonrenewable
resources?
16
Natural Resources
Resources that can be
found in nature and are
used by people, such as
sunlight, air, water,
plants, and animals
17
Renewable Resources
Resources such as
wood, water, or plants
that can be replenished
naturally over time
18
Nonrenewable Resources
Resources, such as
fossil fuels, that cannot
be replaced after they
are used
19
Fossil Fuels
Fuels such as oil, coal,
or natural gas that are
formed in the earth from
plant or animal remains
