The National Flag of Barbados
The national flag of Barbados was designed by the late Mr. Grantley Prescod. He was a teacher and an education officer. His design was chosen through a flag competition that was organised by the government of Barbados on July 31st, 1966 which he won. The colours of the national flag are ultramarine, gold and black.

The national flag is divided into three equal vertical panels. The inner panel is gold with a black broken trident on it while the outer panels are ultramarine. Each colour on the national flag represents something. Gold represents the sand of the island's beaches. Ultramarine represents the sea and sky of Barbados.

The broken trident represents the trident of the mythical sea god Neptune and Barbados breaking away its colonial ties with England. Today the national flag is displayed on special occasions in Barbados.
