كَانَ الثُّعْبَانُ يَبْحَثُ عَنْ مَكَانٍ آمِنٍ لِيَنَامَ فِيهِ خِلَالَ النَّهَارِ. وَجَدَ جَحْرًا صَغِيرًا تَحْتَ شَجَرَةٍ ضَخْمَةٍ. دَخَلَ الثُّعْبَانُ الْجُحْرَ وَلَفَّ نَفْسَهُ دَاخِلَ الْمَكَانِ الضَّيِّقِ. كَانَ الْجَوُّ هَادِئًا وَمُظْلِمًا، مِمَّا جَعَلَهُ يَشْعُرُ بِالرَّاحَةِ. اسْتَمَرَّ فِي النَّوْمِ حَتَّى غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ لِيَبْحَثَ عَنْ طَعَامِهِ فِي اللَّيْلِ
