Potongan itu merupakan bagian dari seluruh bagian semangka. bagian-bagian inilah yang disebut pecahan.

Sebuah lingkaran dibagi 4 sama besar. nilai satu bagian yang di arsir adalah seper empat atau ¼.
Nilai tiap bagian yang lain ¼
Sebuah lingkaran dibagi 6 sama besar. Nilai satu bagian yang di arsir adalah seperenam atau ⅙.
Nilai tiap bagian yang lain ⅙.
