كَانَ الْقُنْفُذُ يَسِيرُ فِي الْحَدِيقَةِ عِنْدَمَا وَجَدَ تَفَاحَةً حَمْرَاءَ كَبِيرَةً تَحْتَ الشَّجَرَةِ. حَاوَلَ حَمْلَ التَّفَاحَةِ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ لَكِنَّهَا كَانَتْ ثَقِيلَةً. قَرَّرَ أَنْ يَدْحَرِجَ التَّفَاحَةَ بِاسْتِخْدَامِ أَنْفِهِ حَتَّى يَصِلَ إِلَى جُحْرِهِ. بَعْدَ فَتْرَةٍ مِنَ الْجُهْدِ، وَصَلَ أَخِيرًا إِلَى مَنْزِلِهِ. تَنَاوَلَ التَّفَاحَةَ وَشَعَرَ بِالسَّعَادَةِ بَعْدَ عَنَاءِ طَوِيلٍ
