Discussion

​There were mangrove trees everywhere.

Both “was” and “were” can be used as
the past tense of “to be,” but they are
not interchangeable.

Was/Were

We can use the past simple of the verb to be to talk about situations and states in the past.

“was” and “were” can be used simple past
passive, followed by verb 3
