Starter Activity - Matching:

35

- Nucleotides are the basic building blocks of DNA and RNA. Each nucleotide is composed of three parts:

1. A sugar molecule (deoxyribose in DNA, ribose in RNA)

2. A phosphate group

3. A nitrogenous base in DNA (which can be adenine (A), thymine (T), cytosine (C), or guanine (G) ;
in RNA, thymine is replaced by uracil (U)).

- Nucleotides link together to form long chains, creating the DNA or RNA molecule. The sequence of these nucleotides in DNA encodes genetic information that determines an organism's traits and directs cellular functions.

What are Nucleotides?

Modeling DNA
  • nucleotides make up genes

  • nucleotides is the building block of gene

  • gene is stored in DNA

  • gene is responsible for giving information and directions for the organism to survive
