What is Dance?

Dance is a form of expressive
movement that uses the body to
convey emotions, stories, or
rhythms. It can be structured with
specific steps or improvised, and it
serves various purposes such as
artistic expression, entertainment,
ritualistic or social activities.

Types of Dance

Ballet-

Originated in the Italian
Renaissance courts and
developed in France and
Russia.

Festival Dance

Festival dances are traditional or
cultural dances performed in
celebration of various festivals, often
linked to a community's religious,
cultural, or historical events. They are
lively, colorful, and typically involve
large groups of people who showcase
their heritage and traditions through
music, costumes, and choreography.

Folk Dance

Traditional dances reflecting
cultural identity and values.
Examples include Irish step
dance, Indian Bharatanatyam,
and Philippine Tinikling. Folk
dances are usually performed
during celebrations and rituals.

Contemporary

A modern dance style blending
elements from ballet, jazz, and
others. It focuses on fluid,
natural movement and explores
body lines, emotions, and
artistic interpretation.

Zumba

Zumba is a popular fitness program
that combines dance and aerobic
exercises, usually set to energetic
music like Latin rhythms. Created by
Colombian dancer and
choreographer Alberto "Beto"
Pérez in the 1990s, Zumba has
gained worldwide recognition for its
fun, high-energy workouts that feel
more like a dance party than a
traditional exercise routine.
