The Internet VS WWW (Page 54)

The internet and the World Wide Web are not the same; one is the infrastructure, and the other is a service running on top of it.

The Internet

The internet is an enormous network connecting the world; it is not a WAN. It stands for 'interconnected network' and uses TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) as foundational protocols.

World Wide Web

The World Wide Web is a service that contains a collection of resources built on the internet. It uses web browsers and the HTTP(S) protocols for sharing documents, the most common of which are HTML files.

HTTP - Hypertext Transfer Protocol

HTTPS - Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure

TCP - Transmission Control Protocol

IP - Internet Protocol
URL - Uniform Resource Locator

HTML - Hypertext Markup Language
