Introduction to Weather Prediction

Weather prediction helps us plan our activities and stay safe. We'll learn about
four key factors:

●Temperature

●Humidity

●Wind speed

●Cloud types

These elements work together to create the weather we experience every day!

Temperature and Humidity

Temperature: How hot or cold the air is

●Measured in degrees Fahrenheit (°F) or Celsius (°C)

●Example: 75°F is a warm day

Humidity: Amount of water vapor in the air

●High humidity feels sticky and muggy

●Low humidity feels dry

●Measured as a percentage (%)

Question: What temperature and humidity would you expect on a hot, sticky
summer day?

Wind Speed and Cloud Types

Wind Speed: How fast the air is moving

●Measured in miles per hour (mph) or kilometers per hour (km/h)

●Example: 10 mph is a gentle breeze

Cloud Types:

●Cumulus: Puffy, white clouds (fair weather)

●Stratus: Gray, layer-like clouds (might bring light rain)

●Cirrus: Thin, wispy clouds high in the sky

●Cumulonimbus: Tall, dark clouds (can bring thunderstorms)

Question: Which cloud type would you expect to see on a stormy day?

Putting It All Together

To predict the weather:

●Check the temperature and humidity

●Observe wind speed and direction

●Look at the types of clouds in the sky
